At last a great looking bird at Tophill Low NR, East Yorkshire. This 1st winter Great Northern Diver Gavia immer was found on O reservoir this morning by my old friend Graham Slack, the last one site was on the same reservoir almost a decade ago!!!
Although they appear to be black and white, these photos were taken in colour against the sun when the bird appeared under the O res viewing platform around noon.
Charisma value, looks, rarity value… beats that dreadful 1st winter drake Ring-necked Duck Aythya collaris that attracted twitchers anytime!!!
But given the rarity of both species in recent years… maybe its a good time to year list the site.
